Monthly Archives: February 2014

If you’ve been following my posts (I forgive you, if you haven’t *winks*), you will know I am sucker for good music. Songs that just pull on your heart and most importantly, has a message.

One of my favourite artiste, T-Kross is set to release a new single on the 3rd March, 2014 (Monday Next Week). He is one of my favourites because he has a special thing going for him; he can actually sing (Laughs).

On a more serious note, I had the privilege of pre-listening to the single and I must say, it is a fine blend of Soul and an upbeat Rhythmical Tempo, creating a luscious tone that stays with you. Also importantly, it is the Gospel!

Please just don’t take my word for it, check out the single set for release on the 3rd of March, 2014 (Monday Next Week).

In the voices of Jennifer Lopez (JLo), ‘T-Kross, you will be around for many!’ and Randy Jackson, ‘This is one to watch. T-Kross is in it to win it!’

tkross (473x298)

Isn’t he Fine? (Yes, I said it). Couldn’t have put it better myself; indeed, ‘the gospel just got cooler’.

Good poetry writing is an art that has evaded me (Not as a result of not trying, I may add). For as long as I remember, I have wished (and practiced) it to happen but will be the first to admit that I am just not good at it. I can write in simple, plain conversational English but, well, poetry is a lot more than that. You have to be good at poetic rhetorics, figurative expressions, creative imagination and all its sorts, which I just haven’t been able to master.

Anyways, I accept the cup as half full, take what I have and appreciate the works of those who are good at writing real poems. Yesterday, I had the privilege of reading a short poem written by a friend. It was a short and quick scribble but nonetheless, good (Yes, I dare say so). I didn’t want it to go to waste so I decided to put it out here, this way; I get the privilege of showcasing it and achieving durability.

First, I should say to this friend – Sorry I didn’t ask your permission, didn’t what to risk you saying no.

I really hope y’all like and appreciate it as much as I do (Find poem below)

Loving God, Loving Me & Loving Life

Hey y’all, Trust we all had a beautiful valentine’s day.

I know some people for reasons best known to them, have mixed feelings about celebrating Valentine’s Day (Or, down-right, do not like it). I guess it’s a bit understanding because like most things with human (societal) factors, it has been interpreted and reinterpreted so much so that its original significance has waned. As a result, it has become just another day with too much material interpretation…

Ultimately, I think the original idea of Valentine’s Day is so beautiful; a special day that is just all about Love (And I love Love). That special day (Just like thanksgiving, birthdays and Christmas), when we reflect upon the love of God in our lives and how this love has translated into other special things. It is that special day when we, as humans, are reminded that we are in fact love-beings (created and fashioned in Love) to show forth love:

Love for God (Who has given us life)

Love for our family and friends (Who add beauty and colour to our lives)

Love for Life (Even though it comes with its challenges, it also comes with hope and helps us remember that we have a lot to be grateful for and to always keep it real)

Love for yourself (Because there is no one else like you and you are beautiful in your own way)

Love for people (That we are all first and foremost, individuals and everyone needs to be reminded every now and then that they are special, especially kids).

Love for that very special someone in your life (Because they love you enough to see beyond your vices and put up with your sometimes frustrating {otherwise known as unique} personality).

So yes, Valentine’s Day is a very special day because it is all about Love. Not to say we shouldn’t show love every other day, but just that, if you haven’t been showing or saying it enough, it is a day to make up for it.

Even though the day is past, I am still in the love zone;

Loving God for his abundant love and mercies towards me.

Loving life because it accords me the opportunity to live, hope and love.

Loving me because like I said, I am unique (beautiful and frustrating in my own way).

Finally, if you don’t like Valentine’s Day that much, I suggest you re-evaluate the idea.

And if you didn’t celebrate it, I suggest you do. Any day could be your Valentine’s Day.

I love y’all JOCM followers and readers. Thank you for being a part of my world and taking the time to read my lengthy posts.

Hugs & Kisses

Born Female = A Disadvantage! Really?

About a week ago, I heard the most shocking thing ever and what made it worse, was the fact that it came from someone I respect greatly. It was during a teaching. He had deviated a bit and was talking about how certain social facts of one’s life could define the course of their lives. I couldn’t have agreed more until he said ‘being born a woman is a disadvantage’!

When I heard this, my first reaction was, as you would assume; you said what!!!! Who says something like that? Of course that isn’t true and even if it was, you don’t say it out loud, especially not coming from a man! I felt so offended that I wanted to shout out; hey, wait! Haven’t you heard of all the women in the world who are doing so great? All the women who can contend, withstand and even win the men in their respective professions? Haven’t you heard about Hilary Clinton, Sheryl Sandberg, Sonia Gandhi, Angela Merkel, Dilma Rousseff, Christine Lagarde, Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce Knowles, Geun-hye Park, to mention just a few? These are women whose names ring a bell wherever and whenever. They are not just among the Forbes world 100 most powerful women; they are in a fact among the 100 most powerful people. Let’s bring it back home a bit; there is Ngozi Iweala Okonji (Great woman, both within and outside Nigeria) and Chimamanda Adichie (Again, globally known and appreciated for her works in and out of literature). How then can someone say that being born a woman is a disadvantage? And so, I ranted and raved in my head.
